BSA Ecomapping Toolkit

Ecomapping is a free, visual tool that helps small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to analyse and manage environmental behaviour. It is also a useful tool for larger businesses.
Developed by European environmental champion Heinz-Werner Engel, ecomapping is an easy, cost-effective way for you to meet your company’s environmental obligations and become more eco-efficient.
Ecomapping is a step-by-step process that involves making ‘mud maps’ of your company’s:
- Water consumption.
- Waste.
- Noise and Air emissions.
- Soil contamination.
- Environmental risks.
From this, you can develop a broader environmental management system.
While some tasks are undertaken in the office, most involve engagement with staff on the ‘shop floor’. To be successful, eco-mapping requires the commitment of management and the involvement of all employees.
(And don’t forget to take ‘before and after’ photos of areas that you are targeting for improvement; this is a great way to celebrate achievements with your staff.)
The Ecomapping Toolkit enables you to develop an Environmental Management System which can be expanded to meet ISO 14001.
