South Australia’s Cleantech Strategy

South Australia has over half the nation’s wind power, almost 95% of all national investment in geothermal projects since 2002 and a fifth of Australia’s grid-connected domestic solar panels.  With strong green credentials South Australia is the place to discover new cleantech opportunities.

Cleantech is an amalgamation of technologies and techniques involving commercial products, services and processes that have a positive environmental impact in industries such as energy, water and waste and has become a major global business opportunity.

The State Government’s vision is for South Australia to remain at the forefront of green manufacturing, cleantech industries and renewable energy, underpinning our economy with smart, high value-added industries, which also benefit the environment.

The Department for Manufacturing, Innovation, Trade, Resources and Energy (DMITRE) is leading the State Government’s cleantech industry development strategy and has identified business opportunities in the following areas - sustainable energy, green buildings, water, wastewater and transport.

As part of this strategy, DTED will:

  • focus on projects that build competitive advantage for the State, such as the Tonsley Park Redevelopment;
  • stimulate partnerships between industry, government and research groups to support new products and services;
  • assist companies reduce carbon emissions and improve resource efficiency; and
  • facilitate industry participation in major local and international projects.

DTED also provides the following three programs to support the growth of South Australia's cleantech sector:
