South Australia has been ranked the number one Australian state for streamlining the assessment process for development.
Minister for Urban Development and Planning Paul Holloway today welcomed the ranking by the Planning Institute Australia.
While South Australia maintained its C grading overall in this year’s PIA Report Card, the State scored well and improved its ranking in some of the most challenging areas of planning and development.
PIA National President Sue Holliday at the launch of the national report card described South Australia as one of the standout performers and a leading light for other States to follow.
“We welcome that accolade as a reflection of the work this government has done to put South Australia at the forefront of planning reform in Australia," Minister Holloway says, "but there is still more that we can do."
“To this end we have initiated a further intensive and wide-ranging review of the system,” he says.
“We are just beginning this task, and I believe as it progresses our success will be acknowledged in a move further up the national rankings in the PIA Report Card in the years ahead.”
South Australia this year climbed in the PIA national rankings in the key criteria of sustainability indicators, demographic change, streamlining assessment and transport while achieving a number two ranking in a new category of climate change.
