More than 2,500 of South Australia’s British expats were at Adelaide's Glenelg beach on December 21st to take part in a live television broadcast seen by five million viewers in the UK.

Support for the event was huge, and the footage of the expats enjoying themselves at the beach was a great way to sell the state to British television viewers.

The Adelaide broadcast was screened live in the UK by the country’s most popular TV breakfast show, GMTV.

The thousands of South Australians who registered for the event also registered for their chance to send Christmas greetings to the UK via live television.

The event was a big afternoon family-friendly party on the foreshore, with a barbeque, live music and entertainment.

The event was not only going great fun, but served the more serious purpose of promoting South Australia to our number one source for tourists and migrants.

More than 80,000 visitors from the UK holiday in South Australia each year, and British immigrants account for a quarter of people arriving here to settle permanently.

South Australia’s climate, great beaches and laid-back lifestyle are all huge drawcards for UK immigrants and tourists.

Throughout the broadcast there were live crosses from Adelaide to GMTV’s London studio, which included interviews with British migrants who now call South Australia home.
