South Australia-India Engagement Strategy
The State Government has developed a whole-of-state strategy to maximise and capture opportunities presented by the growing Indian economy.
The South Australia-India Engagement Strategy outlines how we will work to strengthen the state’s ties with India and build a long-term partnership.
This partnership will span investment, trade and business activities as well as education, sport, culture, the arts and sciences.
It’s part an approach to furthering an exchange of people, skills and ideas.
An Advisory Council has been formed to aid this process.
Industry sectors critical to our relations with India
The South Australia-India Engagement Strategy aims to develop a more broadly based alliance across many sectors of our economy to maximise benefits for people in India and South Australia alike.
Four sectors as identified as critical to the development of this long-term relationship and they are:
- energy and natural resources – natural gas, copper and uranium exports and investment
- education and training – higher-education management courses, engineering courses, vocational training in sunrise sectors
- clean technology – desalination, municipal water projects, industrial water treatment, wind power
- and aerospace and defence – electronic systems and systems integration, maritime engineering and infrastructure.
Ongoing consultation and communication with Indian state and local governments, businesses and chambers of commerce will ensure activity continues to be based on current conditions in India.
